Me and my friend Kevin will spend 7-8 days cycling around the island. He was given a GPS thing from a friend so you can track us where we are. Pretty cool, huh? I did no work to get this thing running but at least I have a link to show for my friend's work:
We're taking a train tomorrow at 6 am to the South of the island to start, so if you happen to see it then, yes we really are cycling at 100 km/h. (think of all the possibilities that this device can be used for; it's only the size of my wallet)
Taiwan has been amazing and a very welcome change from Southeast Asia. The weather is nice and cool (Burma was pretty ridiculously hot), so much of a change that my heels have been cracking and it kind of hurts.
The food here is great. Taiwanese are so inventive with food, and there's night markets filled with amazing variety (and surprisingly each stand is something that looks tasty and clean -- not insects or suspicious looking items). Many interesting flavors combined: wasabi wraps, basil sausage, shrimp pineapples. Taiwan seems to get a lot of food influence from all the nearby Asian countries. Also there are great vegetarian food serve yourself restaurants (run by Buddhists I think). It'd be so easy to be vegetarian here with all the great options and fake meat, if you weren't tempted by the night markets with their meaty offerings...
