This is the start of my bike trip.
These first two days were probably the least fun. They were about 70 miles each day, very hilly, and I didn't have biking shorts (= very sore butt). The roads were good but there wasn't really a shoulder.
This is my bike. It cost me $200 and isn't much more than a Target bicycle.
This is my bag. I packed one change of clothes, water bottles, a spare tube, 2 clif bars from home, a map, that's about it. I got the bag for 25 dollars off craigslist at home. The staple of a bike trip in Thailand is shelters like these. They appear every 2 km or so and they're for people waiting for public buses. They're usually empty and are great for a water break or lie down.
Thailand is divided into Provinces, which are like our states in the US. The provinces in the North are all divided by mountains; when you enter a new province, it's a good sign that you can stop pedaling uphill.
200 km later, into CM. There is some really great food here and it's one of my favorite cities anywhere.
